About

1 The Old Signal House

One of the most stunning headland settings in Cornwall at Penlee point, near Cawsand. 1 The Old Signal House is one of three adjoining cottages that was once The Old Signal House, formerly a Trinity Lighthouse Service Signal Station built at the turn of the last century to house the families of the light house keepers at Eddystone Lighthouse.

Situated in splendid isolation on the headland at Penlee Point, the house is reached by a private woodland lane in the Mount Edgcumbe Estate, where there is a private parking. The house itself is then a further 82 steps down onto the headland, sitting just above the rocks and adjacent sandy beach, with the most amazing sea views.

Rame Head is a delightful half hour walk away along the coastal path. The twin villages of Cawsand and Kingsand are walking distance and have several foodie pubs.

There is a seasonal ferry from Cawsand beach into the heart of Plymouth. The three mile surfing beach of Whitsand Bay is a short distance away.

PROPERTY DETAILS

With three bathrooms and three bedrooms, 1The Old Signal House provides luxury holiday accommodation at this spectacular spot overlooking Plymouth Sound. The property is furnished to a high standard, there is a terrace and extensive lawn overlooking the sea and a spiral staircase takes you up onto the splendid roof terrace.

There are wonderful sea views from most windows with an array of ships (and even the occasional submarine!) providing continual interest. Views are back into Plymouth Sound and the famous Hoe and Breakwater, along the south Devon coast towards Dartmouth and out to the open English Channel.

Seals, and occasionally dolphins, can be spotted regularly in the sea below the house. The area is perfectly placed to observe bird migration and is renowned for rare sightings of migratory species during the spring and autumn. The Cornwall Wildlife Trust Reserve of Penlee Battery is just above the property and boasts one of the few populations of the bee orchid in Cornwall, amongst chamomile, wild basil, wild flax, yellow bartsia, salad burnet and goat's-beard.

Please note that owing to its spectacular situation, The Old Signal House is accessed by 82 steps down from the car park.

The house is surrounded by unguarded cliffs and so children and dogs require supervision.
